Amsterdam to Gouda

Day 14. Stage 2 begins. We headed back out this morning into the organised chaos of the Amsterdam traffic and soon found ourselves in the countryside once again. Today’s riding was absolutely beautiful as we travelled the lovely back roads that wind their way through the small towns and villages. The country is so green and lush and the small canals that are ever present are so picturesque. The winds were also very kind to us today which made for some great riding. The suggested lunch spot was Utrecht with its medieval old town. It is also a thriving university town.

After lunch it was canals and more canals as we wound our way to our overnight stop of Gouda at 86km. Gouda has a very pretty old town area and not surprisingly a large number of cheese shops with an amazing array of flavoured Gouda cheeses, everything from lavender to wasabi and even cannabis if that’s your thing. We finished the evening with another fantastic group dinner at our hotel.
