Gouda to Antwerp

Day 15. At 120km, today was the longest ride we will do on this tour but as usual it was flat and there was no wind so not really too difficult. We rode out from Gouda through small villages and farms, all surrounded by canals, just beautiful. After the first of two short ferry trips we passed through the area of Kinderdijk where there are nineteen old windmills built in the 1700’s for water management. Many of these windmills are still inhabited. Two have been set up as museums you can enter.

After our second ferry crossing we passed through the beautiful old city of Dordrecht. The closer we got to Belgium the less wet the land became but still very green everywhere. At the 90km mark we crossed our third border into Belgium. It’s beer and chocolate for the next three days!

We are staying tonight in a stunning hotel which is a former 15th century convent and hospital. While we are staying in comfort, if these walls could talk I bet they’d have some pretty harrowing stories to tell. As tomorrow is a short day to Ghent we get a sleep in, yay.
