Around the World by Bicycle!

Heinz Stucke, an man of inspiration

Updated: 30th March 2009

An amazing thing happened on our way to Uluru, in Central Australia. We met Heinz Stucke, a German cyclist pushing his way around the world, clocking over 600,00km in his 48th year in the road, with 198 countries visited.

This epic adventure has claimed all sorts of long distance records and his talk to the Rock Riders at Lake Hart morning tea was inspiring, to say the least.

Here we were cycling from Adelaide to Alice and this guy, carrying all his luggage and everything he owns on his Bike Friday, was riding up to 150km a day. He told Phil later that the AllTrails riders inspired Heinz to push harder and have fun with the group at days end.

The stories Heinz shared talk about the weird place he has slept. You name it, he's slept there. His knowledge of the world, its people and cities is unbelievable. His love of life is contagious, his energy for a man nearing 70 is life extending and his love of Australia and the ozzies should make us all very proud.

"Push on, Heinz!", who is now cycling for the 3rd time through South America.

Purchase "Around the World by Bicycle", a wonderful book of the adventures of Heinz Stucke. The cost of the book is $15 (incl postage and handling). Email or call the AllTrails team for your copy.
