Pedal away from the every day: The Cycle Queensland Bike Ride in 2016 provides a cycling itinerary will take you through the Moreton Bay and Wide Bay-Burnett regions, starting in Woodford and ending in the spectacular Hervey Bay. On the event, you’ll enjoy quiet country roads, good company, and stunning scenery as you ride to Maleny, Kenilworth, Gympie, Rainbow Beach, Maryborough and Burrum Heads before finishing in Hervey Bay. Combine this with our luxury package of massage, accommodation, support, afternoon tea, great friendships and comfy beds and you’ve got the recipe for an unforgettable week of riding.

About Us: Our luxury package has been operating successfully since 2004 and our cyclists say that they are getting better every year. These accommodation packages run alongside the annual State Cycling Bodies’ large participation rides such as the Great Vic Bike Ride and Cycle Queensland Ride. On these cycling holidays there could be anywhere from a thousand to a few thousand riders who camp every night over the week. For those who do not want to camp and carry their luggage, we organise this luxury support and accom package that becomes a ‘ride within a ride’ and it won’t take long for you to mix in with a great group of people to enjoy your week with.

Our Relationship with Bicycle Queensland: We are proud of our history in partnering with Bicycle Queensland on this Cycle Queensland ride and we are pleased to be the official provider of the ‘Luxury Package’ option where we source some great accommodation (close to the campsites wherever possible) and provide a nice comfy bed, luggage transfer and massage therapist to make your ride that extra bit easier and enjoyable. It also takes the weather out of the equation to a large degree for the week long ride.

Cycle Queensland Ride: Cycle Queensland is all about having fun – both on and off your bike! You don’t need to worry about cooking meals, transporting luggage or navigating from town to town because all your needs are taken care of. You will find all levels of riding ability on this tour from experienced riders, to the part-timers, to the first-timers, to the families and everything in between. If this sounds like you then check out the Bicycle Queensland website here and, of course, if you prefer to recover with a massage and a bed rather than pitching a tent and dealing with the elements, then that is where we step in…

We carry your luggage door to door, arrange the motels, transport you back to the event campsite for evening meals and entertainment, massage those legs and keep your bike rolling. We are here to make your week as easy and enjoyable as possible. So make your booking for our Cycle Queensland Luxury Support and Accom Package now via the ‘Book this Ride’ button above.

Note that you also need to book separately for the CQ ride on the Bicycle Queensland website (additional cost).

AllTrails cyclists sit down for a group dinner on the Bicycle QLD ride:

AllTrails Cycle QLD Bike Ride

Motels, Massage & Luggage Transfer

Wake up every morning in a nice comfortable bed, enjoy breakfast in your motel before heading out on the day’s ride. The AllTrails crew will transfer your luggage directly from your accommmodation to your next motel or BnB. After you have completed your day’s challenge on the Cycle Queensland Bike Ride, relax upon arrival at your motel, enjoy afternoon tea and perhaps have our bike mechanic look over your bike for a few tips or minor adjustments that you could make to improve your ride. Why not enjoy a massage a few times during the week just to keep the body in tune?

All of these services are part of this total luxury support package, not to mention the social interaction and camaraderie that is always a highlight for those on our packages. In the evening our bus will take you to and from the nightly dinner and entertainment at the event campsite, or we may organise a group dinner, or you may wish to lash out in style and have a meal at the motel or a local restaurant with new friends. Off to bed for a great night sleep before doing it all again tomorrow.

Woodford (pre tour) -- NA -- Thu 1 Sep 2016 -- - - - -
Today we will be taking a bus transfer from Brisbane Airport to Woodford. AllTrails package participants are welcome to join us. If you come on the bus with us you will need to purchase two extra night’s pre-tour accommodation (Thu & Fri) in Woodford before the ride starts on Sat (see ‘pricing’ tab for bus and optional accom costs).
Woodford (pre tour) -- NA -- Fri 2 Sep 2016 -- - - - -
Most cyclists will arrive today and stay at our pre-tour accommodation locations in and around Woodford. If you are arriving today please book the optional extra pre-tour accom (see ‘pricing’ tab).
Woodford loop ride -- 55km -- Sat 3 Sep 2016 -- - - - A
Today the ride officially starts with a 55km loop ride to and from Woodford. Today’s ride gives you a great opportunity to explore the area around the township with its lovely rich farm lands that produce strawberries, bananas, pineapples, pawpaw with many roadside stalls and shops the place to stop and select produce fresh from the farm daily. Woodford is also famous for its internationally renowned annual Folk Festival held over the new year period. Woodford is a beautiful but very small town so some of our accommodation is out of town. For those not staying right in Woodford we will run bus transfers between the event campsite and your accommodation at scheduled times. When you arrive back at your motel after the day’s ride we will have afternoon tea ready for you along with a massage therapist in some locations. We expect that most cyclists will get 3-4 massages during the week, sometimes more, so don’t worry if you miss out today. In the evening we will take bus transfers back to the event campsite for you to enjoy your first CQ dinner and entertainment or you may choose to dine out closer to your accommodation.
Woodford to Maleny -- 43km -- Sun 4 Sep 2015 -- B - - A
Enjoy breakfast in your accommodation before heading out for today’s ride which is another short one to ease you into the week with a scenic 43km to Maleny, where we have some lovely small accommodation locations dotted around the township. After your ride relax at your motel or B&B with afternoon tea or perhaps even a massage. Bus transfers will be run back to the campsite for dinner each evening.
Maleny to Kenilworth -- 43km -- Mon 5 Sep 2016 -- B - - A
Breakfast in your accommodation, then it’s on the bike and heading to the small town of Kenilworth with its 1930’s atmosphere, in the beautiful upper Mary Valley Country, behind the Blackall Range. The Town is on the Mary River which flows North from Maleny, through Conondale, Kenilworth, Gympie, Tiaro, Maryborough, and then into the sea opposite Fraser Island. Since the town is so small with no large motels, our group will be spread out over a number of B&B’s and rural retreats in the area. If you cannot cycle directly to your accom, we will have a compound set up at the CQ site for you to leave your bike and we will transfer you in our bus to and from your accom at designated times including back to the campsite for dinner.
Kenilworth to Gympie -- 77km -- Tue 6 Sep 2016 -- B - - A
After breakfast say good bye to the small hamlet of Kenilworth and head to the much larger town of Gympie with its many heritage listed buildings, coffee shops and friendly people. We have 2 motels in town where you can ride to at the end of the day to enjoy your afternoon tea in your room. Why try a quick massage on your legs or shoulders to get your prepared for tomorrow’s ride to Rainbow Beach. This evening you can catch our bus back to the campsite for dinner or find your own meal in town.
Gympie to Rainbow Beach -- 75km -- Wed 7 Sep 2016 -- B - - A
Have a good breakfast today as the ride is a bit longer at 75km and will take you to our rest day location of Rainbow Beach. This tourist hot spot is popular for good reason and you will enjoy the best of the best at our 5 star apartment accommodation right on the waterfront. Our massage therapist will be working away this afternoon and as usual we will take you down to the CQ campsite for dinner if you wish.
Rainbow Beach - Rest Day -- NA -- Thu 8 Sep 2016 -- B - - A
What a place to enjoy a day off. Our massage therapist will be working this morning so if you have not had a massage yet, book yourself in after breakfast (we expect that most cyclists can/will get 3-4 massages during the week). When you are ready to head out and explore the area, there is plenty to do from walking the miles of beautiful beaches, to taking a Fraser Island trip, to discovering picturesque Tin Can Inlet – a tranquil getaway known for its eco-tourism surroundings including the opportunity to feed wild dolphins. Cycle Qld are also arranging some rest day tours for cyclists so keep an eye on their website here. Today is also the day where our 5 night cyclists depart and our 3 nights cyclists arrive.
Rainbow Beach to Maryborough -- 94km -- Fri 9 Sep 2016 -- B - - A
Now that you are all rested up after your day off in Rainbow Beach and energised with a good breakfast you’ll be ready to take on the longest day of the ride to Maryborough. With beautifully preserved colonial streets, visitors have the chance to soak up some of Queensland’s richest history and heritage architecture here. Recently voted one of Queensland’s ‘Must Do’ experiences, the original wharf district is now home to vintage restaurants, pubs, museums and art galleries. Maryborough is also the birthplace of Pamela Lyndon Travers, the creator of Mary Poppins. Jump into the magical world of Mary Poppins and visit the heritage-listed building where she was born, explore the streets on which she grew up and enjoy the striking public art that explores the themes of her novels. Today we again have some nice central accom where you can enjoy afternoon tea and a massage before heading back to the CQ campsite for dinner if you wish.
Maryborough to Burrum Heads -- 69km -- Sat 10 Sep 2016 -- B - - A
After breakfast ,today’s ride sees us head to the water again at the seaside village of Burrum Heads where locals and visitors explore rivers and creeks by boat or canoe, taking advantage of the clear warm water and great fishing. The peace and  tranquility of this town provides a wonderful finish to your ride as the last overnight stop for Cycle QLD 2016. Enjoy afternoon tea and perhaps one last massage (we expect that cyclists will get 3-4 during the week-long ride) before exploring the town. Either have dinner at a local eatery or head back to camp on the bus for one more meal and the final night’s celebrations & activities.
Burrum Heads to Hervey Bay -- 44km -- Sun 11 Sep 2016 -- B - - -
Your final breakfast is included before embarking on the last leg of the ride to Hervey Bay. Congratulations on your efforts to get here! We expect to finish the ride by lunchtime so we will take our bus back to Brisbane departing Hervey Bay at around 12-1pm. Transfers are available if you would like to join us in our bus for the ride back to Brisbane. We can drop you at Hervey Bay Airport on the way out of town, or Sunshine Coast Airport, or Brisbane Airport (see ‘pricing’ tab for more details). See you next year…

Insurance – IMPORTANT

Obtaining appropriate insurance is your (very important) responsibility – even if you live in Australia.
*** Travel Insurance for lost deposits and cancellations ***
travelinsurancedirect.com.au/
travelinsurancecover.com.au/
Lost deposits: We very strongly recommend you take out travel insurance for your trip – even if you live in Australia. This should include cover for cancellation fees, lost deposits, and stolen or lost luggage. We cannot emphasise enough how important this is. There are many unforeseen reasons why cyclists may need to withdraw from a ride – injury, health or other. Cancellation fees can be a major financial loss to you and as a small business we need to adhere to our cancellation policies. Please go to the ride page on our website for your ride and click the ‘Terms & Conditions’ button to see the ride’s cancel policy (note that most travel insurance policies will not include your bike as luggage so that may need to be covered under your home contents insurance or under a specialist bike insurance).
Travel Insurance: Domestic travel insurance cover tends to be significantly cheaper than international cover (approx $50 for one week). Above are two websites that offer both international and domestic travel insurance that you can look at. You can also speak to your local travel agent, or often airline booking websites will offer travel insurance as an optional extra as you book your flight.
*** Cyclist insurance for accidents & medical ***
bicyclenetwork.com.au/general/membership/
bq.org.au/join-us/member-benefits/
This is also very strongly recommended. We cannot emphasise enough how important this is. Cycling can be a dangerous activity and you must be prepared for the worst. You may have an accident in training for the ride, on the ride itself, or cycling down to the corner store. If you are a cyclist coming on our tour you should be 100% prepared for the unexpected.
Cyclist insurance can be bought separately, or it comes with cycling memberships such as Bicycle Network or Bicycle Queensland. If you are involved in a crash or collision they will support you with personal injury costs, loss of income, third party liability insurance, assistance in completing your claim paper work & free legal consultation.

Sharing rooms – how does it work?

On the online entry form you can nominate any travelling companions that you would like to share a room with and/or be accommodated close to so that couples or friends can be grouped together. This can be in a double bed or in twin beds. If you are travelling alone like many of our riders, Single Supplement is available for those who would like their own room for the whole trip. On some tours you can also choose to ‘twin share’ where single riders are paired with other riders of the same gender and changed at each accommodation to create interest in sharing rooms. On other tours you may need to put your name down on a Twin Share Request List and we will try to match you up. If you are a snorer or have other habits that may affect your fellow room-mates we suggest booking your own room. If you are coming on your own and have booked in as twin share, this usually means that you will share a room with one other single twin share traveller, however in some cases we may have larger rooms (eg. two bedroom apartment or a B&B/house with multiple bathrooms) where we may have 3 or 4 single twin share travellers together.

Travelling alone?

Not a problem! You’ll find other like-minded cycling companions taking part in our rides. If you’re a solo traveller we can pair you with other solo travellers of the same gender in twin share accom (early bookers only) or you can opt for Single Supplement (additional cost) to receive a room of your own.

Snorers can enjoy their own room

If you are a chronic snorer or have other habits that may affect your fellow room-mates we suggest booking your own room (single supplement cost). This is not just a courtesy to your fellow travelling companions, but will also give you the space & privacy you need to enjoy your sleep after a long day on the bike.

Speak to a past client

We will be happy to give you the names and telephone numbers of people who have participated in the ride or a similar ride to the one which you are considering. Where possible we will provide you with the details of someone within your city or state.
Another good place to look is our ‘Testimonials’ page.

Group info session

Contact us if you would like to find out about booking an info session for your group of friends, or if you would like to find out about a travel talk happening near you in the future. Be inspired, hear from the experts, learn more about a destination and even book your tour on the night.

Changing or cancelling a tour

We highly recommend that you purchase travel insurance for all our Australian rides at the time of deposit and ensure that it includes coverage for cancellation fees if for some reason you are not able to travel. For our international tours we require all participants to have Travel Insurance to assist you in the event of a medical emergency, lost baggage, personal liability, cancelled tour or any other trip related issues.
Should you wish to change your booking with AllTrails to a different tour, there will be a very reasonable service charge. We try to keep this figure as low as possible to allow flexibility where we can as we want to make sure that you get on the right tour for you. For cancellation and refund policies for your tour click the ‘T&Cs’ tab on the relevant tour page of our website.

What sorts of people join our rides?

People from all parts of Australia and overseas.  Ages generally range from 30 – 70 with the average age about 50 years old. Adventurous cyclists usually about 40% women & 60% men with a mix of singles, friends and couples.

Packing tips

We recommend you bring a soft bag or backpack. We advise against bringing a suitcase as they are bulky, difficult to stow on board vehicles or trailers and heavy. You may be required to lift or carry your own luggage from time to time, e.g. into accommodation. We expect your bag to be no heavier than 15kg, making it easy to manage for you and the staff. Any excess luggage may need to be stored or forwarded on to your final destination at your own expense. Information about what to pack is included as part of your Pre-Departure information. Generally we advise that you pack as light as possible.

Bike type – which is best?

A comfortable racing bike, road bike or touring bike with a good seat and road tyres with slick or near-slick tread. A hybrid or mountain bike is also possible if you are comfortable riding the daily distances and average speed of the tour, however these bikes can be around 20% slower than a road bike. Ask us for the ‘Training Tips’ document for this ride to get an idea of distances and speeds you need to train for.

Accommodation on the support package

We try to obtain the best accommodation in the best location for you to rest your weary head (and legs) in each town whether it be a motel, hotel, resort, B and B, cabins or similar. We choose the best and most welcoming motel for cyclists and our tour group needs, usually 3½ – 4 star, or perhaps 3 star on occasions when we travel through some very small towns and villages where accommodation is extremely limited. Accommodation is in same town as the main ride campsite, otherwise in the nearest town where accommodation is available. If for whatever reason, such as limited options, the accommodation one night is below normal standard, we strive to improve this with an extra good room the next night or nights following.
If you are coming on your own and have booked in as twin share, this usually means that you will share with one other single twin share traveller, however in some cases we may have larger rooms (eg. two bedroom apartment or B&B with multiple bathrooms) where we may have 3 or 4 single twin share travellers together.

Luggage transfer and day packs

We suggest you carry your own personal goods, like camera, wallet, perhaps rain gear if it’s threatening. We carry your main luggage to your accommodation each morning once you have departed. Our vehicles are not allowed on the event cycle route so you will not have access to your luggage during the day so you will need to take everything that you need for the day with you in the morning. Your luggage will be available to you once you check into your accommodation or shortly after.

Bike Hire

We do not have a fleet of our own hire bikes however we can usually help you out with organising bike hire through our local contacts near our office in Melbourne, or closer to a ride departure location. When you make your booking just let us know that you would also like to hire a bike and we will get the ball rolling for you and put you in touch with the right people where possible. You can also bring your own seat and/or pedals to give you that little bit of ‘home comfort’.

Getting to your motel after the day’s ride

Cyclists will be given specific maps, detailing where their overnight motel is situated and how best to ride there from the finish. In the case that your accommodation is not nearby the finish you have the option to leave your bike in our AllTrails compound near front gate of the campsite. We will take you to motel, bring you back for dinner at the campsite if you wish and return you to motel then bring you back to collect your bike the next morning.

Bike Security

If your accommodation isn’t near the day’s ride finish point, AllTrails will set up a compound with a storage rack at the main entrance gate to the camping area. Although security guards are present all night, we suggest you carry a lock as your bike is your responsibility. From the compound we will transfer you to your motel and back.

Luggage delivery

After breakfast, your luggage will be collected from your motel and delivered to your next allocated motel.  It will be left in the foyer or safe storage area and this is usually where you will leave it again in the morning for collection. Day Sheets will have collection times stated for each day.

Massage therapist on the AllTrails package

The massage therapist is complimentary and will be available most afternoons. To be fair to everyone, we have limited the massage time to ten minutes for each person which allows most people a massage on most days – it is not designed to provide a massage every day to every person. We ask that riders be fair and share this luxury around, allowing the late arrivals to get their fair share of massage time. In some towns where we are using three or four motels, the massage therapist will usually be at the motel where the most cyclists are accommodated – massage locations will be listed in your Day Sheets. Bookings can only be made on the day after your arrival at the motel by writing your name in an available 10-minute time slot. We try to allow everyone 4-5 massages during the week, sometimes more. Names will be ticked off, but please speak up if you are somehow missing out.

Training for the bike ride

The great thing about going on a mass ride such as this one is that there are many cyclists with a wide range of abilities and fitness levels. You can pretty much go at your own pace and enjoy the ride at your own speed. More details on training and preparation are on the ride event website.

Evening meals at the main ride campsite

You can choose to have your evening meal at the main ride campsite/HQ, your motel, a local restaurant, hotel or wherever. If you wish, our bus will pick up motel cyclists around 5-6pm to take them to the campsite for dinner and return to motels usually at 8pm. Special times will be arranged for motels that may be further out – your Day Sheets will have specific information for each individual day.

Why book with us?

We only run approximately 10 tours per year. This makes every tour as special to us as it is to you because we are not repeating the same rides over and over again week-in week-out. Every tour is meticulously planned and we are just as excited to be there as you – there is no bulk production-line here! On most occasions the owner-operators of the business will be on tour with you looking after everyone on the ride.  The safety and confidence that comes with that is one of many great reasons to book your cycling holiday with us.
AllTrails is a proud Australian owned company with a great reputation in the bicycle tour industry. We have earned that reputation through hard work and dedication and we sincerely care about every person on every tour. Our large community of loyal AllTrails riders that keep coming back year after year are testament to the high standard of tours that we provide. We consider ourselves the best in the business and we always make sure that our tours represent great value at a fair price.
