Tasmania East 2017

Launceston to Hobart

Thursday 16 February, 2017 to Friday 24 February, 2017

Everybody loves Tasmania!  The history of the early settlers, grand old buildings, beautifully painted weatherboard houses, picturesque stone cottages and of course the wonderful winding roads that pass through quaint townships and magnificent countryside.  It’s all here – all you have to do is bring your bike and ride.

After our hugely successful RACV Resorts Ride in Victoria in 2016, we have decided to do it all over again, this time in Tasmania. In February 2017 we are riding both Tasmania East (16-24 Feb) and West (26Feb-5Mar), stopping at 3 world class RACT Destinations to spend a total of 5 nights at these top class accommodation properties. Join us on one stage or do the double.

On the first leg of this ride (East Coast) we head out from Launceston passing the beautiful, freshly painted timber homes alongside the Tamar River, before they thin out as you start climbing some of the many hills on this exciting tour of Tassie. The climbs and descents are interspersed with magnificent views across cattle strewn countryside, National Parks, and lots of big trees and thick forest as you wind your way through the beautiful towns and picturesque landscapes. A very special rest day at the exclusive RACT Freycinet Lodge will be enjoyed by all, surrounded by some of the most spectacular scenery in the state. We finish in Hobart, coming into town via the world famous MONA gallery where we will stop in for a visit, before taking our place at the impressive Grand Chancellor Hotel, overlooking Constitution Dock at the heart of Hobart’s activity and cultural centre, the shopping precinct and Hobart’s iconic Salamanca Markets which will be open for you to visit on Saturday morning.

Don’t miss this rare opportunity to join a famous AllTrails Tassie Tour – come on your own or get together with friends, or cycling club – it really is a beautiful place to ride your bike. Come on, lets go!

We pride ourselves on our organisation. Not only do we take you to some of the most interesting and scenic destinations in Australia and give you the opportunity to explore those places on your bike (the best way to do it), but we make sure that you don’t need to worry about anything other than cycling, meeting like-minded new people, watching the stunning scenery pass by and just enjoying yourself and your personal challenge. We arrange everything that you will need for the duration of the tour – accommodation, meals, bike mechanic, support & safety vehicles, maps, luggage transfer, sightseeing recommendations – it’s all done for you so that you can pedal away each morning with the knowledge that you are truly being cared for.

Ride to morning tea, have a chat and a snack. Ride to lunch, talk about the route and scenery and meet some more people. Ride to a great motel and enjoy afternoon tea and a hot shower. Relax in the afternoon before an entertaining evening briefing and dinner & drinks. Hit the bed and recharge for another exciting day tomorrow. Riders who participate in AllTrails tours enjoy great camaraderie, sharing laughs and a sense of achievement with their fellow cyclists, knowing that our expert preparation of the tour allows them to relax and enjoy every part of this cycling holiday.

This Tassie East ride has an average distance of 62km/day which is quite achievable for most keen cyclists, however do expect a few hills – Tassie is not flat! You do not need to be a particularly fast rider – just consistent, averaging 20-25km on a flat road. We will have a support vehicle for any cyclist who may need help getting up some of the hills or for any other reason. We will also be nominating a few drop-off points on the toughest days where cyclists can miss a few of the big climbs if they wish, and will have a few longer routes for riders who may want to go a bit faster, further or higher.

If you have any questions or concerns about the distance please study the map which also shows the elevation profile and contact us. We also have a general training plan which we send to all cyclists coming on the ride.

Here are just a few testimonials from the last time we ran these Tassie tours.

“What a great ride and time on the East Coast Tasmania Tour 2013!! Its my 3rd time riding the beautiful coastlines and forested climbs of the East Coast with a group and certainly the standout. Everyone seemed to enjoy themselves and each other’s company immensely , and like myself felt individually catered for. Whether you were a faster rider or a weary tail-ender on day 6 who might want to start at the top of the first inevitable significant climb for the day, you felt well taken care of.” Graham

“I had a fantastic time on the East Coast Tassie ride. A big thank you to Ben and Peter for looking after us. It was exhausting but definitely worth it.” Penny

“I would just like to pass on my thanks for making the East Coast of Tassie bike tour a thoroughly enjoyable experience. The crew were friendly, organized, looked after everyone and nothing was too much trouble for them. I met some nice people on the ride and shared some laughs amidst some great cycling. I look forward to tackling the West Coast next year.” Sophie

“Great ride, nice company in such a small group with lots of ride challenges (if only roads were smooth all the way and slightly downhill with tail winds and no rain). The crew looked after us so well and we were always greeted with well done and nice smiles.” David

“I had a great time, I was not prepared for all the up up and more ups but it was a challenge for which I am proud of my achievement, to finish the ride. The service that you guys provide was fantastic I can not say anything bad. The accommodation was very good, food was great and I can not speak highly enough about the staff… knowing they were there to back us up if needed. I hope to return one day for another Alltrails ride.” Leah
