DETAILS

Australia Ride is made up of 20 individual stages, each between 4 to 15 days in duration that link up to create a fully supported and achievable cycling route around Australia. The 20 stages are completed every 3 to 5 years and cover almost 20,000 km’s of sealed road through Australia’s most remarkable and iconic landscapes. Ride any stage or do the lot.

Our Australia Ride stages are published as regular tours on our ride calendar (marked with an Australia Ride reference). Major stages include: Cairns to Darwin, Darwin to Broome, Broome to Perth, Perth to Adelaide, Adelaide to Melbourne, Melbourne to Sydney, Sydney to Brisbane and Brisbane to Cairns. We also have a loop around Tasmania and we ride up the middle of the red centre from Adelaide to Darwin. We have regularly completed all of these stages dating back to 2001 when we did our first Melbourne to Sydney ride.

So begin your journey around Australia by looking at our ‘Current Tours’ page to see which Australia Ride stages we are covering in the immediate future. Then get out the pen and start ticking it all off.

slow and steady

It has been great to share the journey of many cyclists who have been slowly ‘ticking off’ their epic Around Australia adventure, and particularly pleasing to see a few of them finally achieve their goal over the last few years. These cyclists have used AllTrails for most of their stages around the country, with sometimes one or two sections ridden on their own when the timing of some AllTrails tours has not aligned with their calendar. Cyclists will often do 2, 3 or 4 stages per year - depending on what tours AllTrails are offering at the time - and slowly begin linking the major cities around the map to complete the full circumnavigation. Some cyclists begin aiming for a different goal such as the entire East Coast, or around Tasmania, or from south to north through the Red Centre. It’s an exciting thing to witness somebody arrive in that last city after a massive effort over many years, and it is an honour to be a part of it. Something that starts slowly with one tour can end in such an impressive and satisfying achievement.
